This website introduces a series of publications by Michael Parsons that together present an historical memoir of English rural life.
The monographs explore local and family history. They capture the advantage of rooting observations in the context of a particular locality. They also benefit from the unique perspective offered by the record of a particular family. The particular locality is Farley with Pitton, a parish in south east Wiltshire. The particular family is the Parsons. By concentrating attention on this one little corner of the countryside, a broader landscape is revealed.
The written works are grouped under the menu titles on the buttons to the left of the page.
The Special Features button links to three slideshows about life and work in the woods and fields of Farley. The photographs (taken 1925-1945) come from Michael Parsons' album.
