Farming in Farley

Special Features

Farming technology has evolved steadily over the years, with successive technologies overlapping. You can see from the photographs of haymaking (1935) that the horse continued to be used alongside the tractor. And the first combine harvester in Farley was towed behind a tractor - unlike today's fully-integrated self-propelled giants. Photographed here working at Bells Farm, it was made by the Allis-Chalmers company and imported from America.
